Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, toss peach slices with 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let sit for 15 minutes to release juices.
Pour melted butter into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add milk and vanilla to dry ingredients. Whisk until smooth. Pour batter over melted butter in baking dish. Do not stir!
Spoon peaches with their juices evenly over the batter. Do not stir! Batter will rise around peaches as it bakes.
Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
